Great place to stay if you are going to the horse races or Del Mar Fair or other event at the Fairgrounds since it’s just across the street. It’s a long walk or short drive to Del Mar Dog Beach. See http://www.bestdogplaces.com/bdp/details.php/listing/1/del-mar--dog-beach. Been a while since I stayed there, but they still take pets. It’s not right next to the beach (about a mile away), but it’s in a convenient location since it’s just off the 5 freeway.

There is a new hiking trail system that may be open now. It’s starts at the beach and goes by the lagoon next to the hotel and eventually up to the mountains
